Sweetheart Coffee

Most of you know this, but I don’t drink a ton of coffee.  I’m more of a tea kinda gal (not because I don’t like it, but caffeine just doesn’t really affect me).  But I do love the coziness of drinking something hot.  Shared with a loved one, it’s a special moment.

Yesterday was all about reminding the people you love how much and why you love them.  But with 364 days between us and the next big reminder to do so, what if we made it a little practice each day?  What might it look like?  For me—it’s teeny tiny gestures—hiding notes in suitcases, putting an unexpected heart-shaped marshmallow in a cup of hot coffee, or sending a “was just thinking about you” text.

I love to take something ordinary (e.g. a cup of coffee), and with just a little extra effort, make it something special that expresses my love for the person receiving it (e.g. adding heart shaped marshmallows).

Heart-shaped marshmallows or not, you’ll love this coffee.  Blended with coconut oil, it becomes creamy and frothy but without any dairy.  And, the coconut oil generally keeps me full for awhile.

Food La La Recipe:  Sweetheart Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brewed coffee, hot
  • 1 TBS coconut oil
  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste, or dash of cinnamon
  • Garnish: 1 jumbo marshmallow and heart shaped cookie cutter

Steps:

  1. Put all ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 30 seconds.
  2. If adding the marshmallow garnish, cut the marshmallow in half crosswise.  Use a small heart shaped cutter to press out a heart shape.  Float in coffee.  Optional: Brûlée your marshmallow with a kitchen torch.
