Superfood Chocolates {VIDEO}

Those times you need something but taking a spoon to the pint of mint chip feels dangerous!?  Cue:  superfood chocolates.

When I was in pastry school in France (almost six years ago!) we made something similar called a mendiant.  It’s a traditional French treat made by studding high quality chocolate with dried fruit and nuts (each representing one of the four monastic orders—hazelnut for Carmelites, fig for Franciscans, almond for Dominicans, and raisins for Augustinians).

But what I love about them?!  They’re colorful, satisfying, oozing with texture, and can be made with anything you have in your pantry—dried fruit, seeds, nuts, coconut, flax, goji, fruit peels and zest.  The only two requirements are high quality chocolate and flaky sea salt.

Make a batch then freeze them—they’ll be waiting when your sweet tooth strikes, or, when you need something impressive to rest alongside a cup of tea.
