Arrival in Paris

We made it to the land of crusty baguettes, overflowing day-time-mid-week wine, and the meltiest croissants! And just a few days in, our journey has already surprised us with some unexpected happenings.

I rented us a zippy little European car—which, logistically, turned out to be way easier than I expected—and we buzzed right for the heart of Paris where we stayed for three nights. And as I predicted, it was raining (gray skies are great for photography, though actual rain means you need an umbrella woman to protect the camera woman, and also help fighting hair frizz). But we ran into an even bigger problem that I couldn’t have anticipated (and that, in seven years of producing photo content have never experienced). FWIW - mercury was in retrograde.

An hour into our first shoot (outside the Eiffel Tower) our camera called it quits. Kaput. #KThanksDoneBye. We had backup lenses, batteries, memories cards, but just one precious camera body that decided it was headed for retirement just as we were getting started.

Will share more next week with what’s next, but for now, a handful of things we’ve learned already:

  1. Sky caps are a little more generous than gate agents about pretending they don't see the extra pounds in your (58 pound) suitcase

  2. To limit your jet lag, skip alcohol on the plane (even the free bubbly 😭). We don’t have time to bet jet lagged on this trip!

  3. Paris has major rush hour traffic

  4. French kids get to run around the Champ de Mars (the park around the Eiffel tower) for PE class (Erica had to dodge them to get ‘the shot’)

  5. Despite the smile, ironing clothes whilst still wearing them should not be plan A

. . . more soon!

A bientot!
