MARBLED EASTER EGG COOKIES―THE SWEETEST ADDITION TO YOUR EASTER BASKETS!

NBC's California Live came back to my kitchen this week to delve into Easter treats!  It's the traditional fun of dying Easter eggs but yields a treat that's a little more delicious :)

This marbled icing technique is so easy and can be used with homemade sugar cookies or store-bought!  It will make any cookie feel special and festive.  With a few simple ingredients and tools, mix up a batch and tuck them into Easter baskets or your neighbor's mailboxes for a sweet surprise.

Watch our live segment for all the details:

  • Identify the correct cookie side to decorate (most people don't know this one!)

  • Make the world's quickest icing

  • Learn the technique to marbling

  • Add the golden touch

And in our opinion, nothing is every too pretty to eat―dive in!!

MARBLED ICING & TECHNIQUE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 dozen egg-shaped sugar cookies, pre-baked

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 5-6 TBS filtered water

  • 1 bottle of gel based food coloring

  • Optional: Edible luster dust (available at craft stores and online!) + cheap vodka

STEPS:

  1. Combine powdered sugar and water in a medium sized bowl and whisk until ribbon texture achieved and all lumps are gone. (If you scrape a line through your bowl, it should close together quickly.)

  2. Transfer icing to a shallow bowl. Add a couple drops of your food coloring and use a toothpick or skewer to drag a zig zag pattern across cookie icing (for marble effect).

  3. Submerge one sugar cookie in icing with pattern, remove and scrape off any excess. Lay across a parchment lined baking sheet to dry.

  4. Once completely dry, combine 1 TBS luster dust with 1 tsp of vodka. Mix until you get a thick paint-like consistency (add more dust if it feels to watery, or more vodka if it feels too dry). Gently paint, spackle, and splatter on top of your marbled cookies!

  5. Pour a giant glass of milk and enjoy! (Iced cookies can be stored at room temperature for weeks :))
